The SA Rooibos Council has released figures showing how much consumers are currently paying per serving of their favourite drink based on average supermarket prices. The price per cup of black tea ranges from 20c to 45c, while Rooibos ranges from 40c to 60c, Green tea from 35c to 65c, Earl Grey from 60c to 95c, and flavoured or herbal teas from R1.30 to R1.60. Pure instant coffee ranges from 85c to R1.50, hot chocolate from R1.35 to R1.50, bottled water from R5 to R8, fruit juices from R5 to R10, soft drinks from R5 to R13, and energy drinks from R12 to R15.
This makes tea one of the most affordable beverages on the market. What’s more, tea and Rooibos in particular offer a host of health benefits. It is also easy and cost-effective to make Rooibos-based iced teas, lollies and cocktails.
